Obeya is a structured leadership environment — a room or virtual space — designed to accelerate decision-making and connect strategy to daily operations. Unlike a war room (reactive, crisis-driven) or a KPI dashboard (passive data display), Obeya is a rhythmic practice: a team gathers weekly around a structured set of visual panels and follows a disciplined thinking protocol. The method originates from Toyota's product development process and has been formalised in the Leading with Obeya methodology.
Obeya's roots are in Toyota manufacturing, but the underlying logic — aligning leadership rhythm, visual transparency, and structured problem-solving — applies universally. The method has been applied across water utilities, financial services and insurance (including Aegon Netherlands), healthcare administration, and technology scale-ups. The panels and content change; the thinking protocol stays the same.
Leading with Obeya (LWO) is a structured management methodology developed by Tim Wiegel. It provides a complete framework: the room design, the visual panels, the leadership behaviours, and the deployment roadmap. Obeya.studio is the official US distributor and certified practitioner of LWO. All training and consulting engagements are grounded in the LWO framework, supplemented by field experience from real deployments.
A focused deployment — from leadership scan to first live Obeya session — typically takes 8 to 12 weeks. Full capability building, where the team runs independently without coaching, usually requires 3 to 6 months. The timeline depends on organisational readiness, leadership bandwidth, and whether the room is physical, digital, or hybrid.
Yes — and in most cases it makes them work better. Lean programmes often struggle with leadership alignment; SAFe implementations often lack a connecting layer between PI Planning and daily team behaviour. Obeya provides the management rhythm that links strategic intent to operational reality, regardless of which improvement methodology you already use. It is a complement, not a replacement.
Yes. As the official US distributor of LWO, working with North American organisations is a core part of the practice. Remote and hybrid engagements are structured around digital Obeya tools (Miro, MURAL, or custom setups), intensive on-site launch visits, and regular coaching calls. US clients typically start with a complimentary discovery call to assess fit and scope.
